PSY 402 - History and Systems of Psychology

An overview of the history of psychological thought, including its philosophical grounding, and the emergence of theoretical systems such as structuralism, functionalism, behaviorism, depth psychology, and the contemporary cognitive sciences. Attention will be given both to the modern historical and social shaping of psychology, and its deeper roots in human history and culture, including its changing scientific subject matters and methodologies, and the socioculteral, ideological and political forces behind its sometimes controversial and problematic directions.
