SED 333 - Assessment in Special and Inclusive Education (MSE 533)

This course provides an overview of assessment as a tool to guide various types of decisions in the educational setting.  The primary focus is on use of informal and formal assessment to craft instruction that is responsive to individual learners.  The course also includes information on how to use data to make eligibility and placement decisions while highlighting best practice to ensure that these decisions are well informed and in the best interest of the learner.  Specific topics include legislation, trends, and issues in assessment practices; different types of tests and their appropriate administration, scoring, and interpretation; use of descriptive statistics to describe and interpret data sets; reliability and validity considerations in designing, administering, and reporting; and assessment of young children and behavior. *Prerequisite(s): Formal Acceptance into the Education Program is required.
