CJ 4000 - Criminal Law and Procedure

Credits: 3.00 credits.
This course will examine the legal foundations of the criminal justice system to include its organization, function, and enforcement. The course will include a study of what constitutes a crime, the difference between substantive and procedural criminal law, and constitutional limitations. In addition, the course will include an analysis of the United States Supreme Court decisions involving the constitutional rights of individuals in the criminal process. Specific topics to be discussed include interrogation, probable cause, arrest, search and seizure, the exclusionary rule, and the trial and appellate processes.
