EN 201 - WCH British Literature and Culture II: 1660 – Present Day4.00 credits. (Western Cultural Heritage Core Course) *A Guided Writing and Research Course. This course is the second of our two-part British Literature and Culture Survey Sequence. It explores seminal texts from the literary and cultural movements that developed after the Restoration—movements traditionally known as the Neoclassical, Pre-Romantic, Romantic, Victorian, Edwardian, Modern, and Contemporary. By examining the texts’ literary devices, themes, genres, structures, and contexts, students will develop their broad and close reading skills. They will also enhance and strengthen their literary and cultural knowledge of the countries that became the United Kingdom of Great Britain. (The texts and themes explored in the course are shaped by the instructor’s specializations and interests: for details about materials covered during a particular semester, see the English Department’s website.) *Prerequisite(s): EN 100 or EN 150 . *Students in the English Literature Concentration should take this course during the spring of their First Year.
