MU 230 - Music Teaching and Learning

3.00 credits.

Students discover how children learn music and the role of music learning theory in facilitating that process. The future music educator is also introduced to the process of curriculum development and the assessment of music teaching and learning. Model curricula based on national and state standards are reviewed. Students will develop the ability to assess aptitudes, backgrounds, and orientations of students and subject content and be able to plan lessons that meet assessed needs. Peer teaching and school observations will be an integral part of the course experience. Fall semester.
