CS 113 - NPS The Power and Beauty of Computing

4.00 credits.
(Natural and Physical Sciences Core Course)
A broad introduction to the discipline of computer science is given with a focus on its deep concepts and powerful impact. An emphasis is placed on seven “big ideas” developed by the CS Principles initiative: creativity, abstraction, data, algorithms, programming, the Internet, and impact. Examples and problems are drawn from other scientific fields and include DNA processing, particle simulation, and projectile motion. Programming projects are done in the introductory Scratch language and Python. Students completing CS 122 or higher (with the exception of CS 270  and CS 271 ) are prohibited from enrolling in CS 113. Fall semester.
