CH 113 - Organic Chemistry I4.00 credits. An introduction to the principles guiding the structure of organic molecules and how structure affects reactivity. Both structure and reactivity will be approached from kinetic, thermodynamic, and mechanistic viewpoints. Topics include bonding, stereochemistry, nomenclature, conformational analysis, substitutions, eliminations, addition reactions, and instrumentation applied to carbon compounds. The importance of organic compounds across disciplines and in everyday life will be emphasized. *Prerequisite(s): a grade of C- or above in CH 105 . *Corequisite(s): CH 113L. Hours: lecture 3, laboratory 3. Spring semester.
