PSY 226 - Child and Adolescent Development4.00 credits. This course discusses physical, cognitive, and social development from a psychological perspective. Developmental periods of infancy to early childhood (ages birth-5), middle childhood (ages 6-11), and adolescence (ages 12-20) are the focus. Development is viewed as a complex process that requires understanding: (1) how biological, psychosocial, and contextual influences operate together and affect one another over time, and (2) how earlier periods of development influence later ones. Theoretical perspectives, research findings, and related methodological issues are emphasized in the course lectures, readings, and examinations. *Prerequisite(s): PSY 105 . Students who complete PSY 225 may not enroll in PSY 226 or PSY 227 . Offered annually.
