IC 203 - NPS/WCH Foundations of Modern Physics4.00 credits. (Natural and Physical Science Physics Non-Lab Core Course and Western Cultural Heritage Core Course) *A Guided Writing and Research Course. This is a course in the philosophy of modern physics, i.e., special relativity, general relativity, quantum mechanics, and quantum field theory. More specifically, we will introduce and discuss the philosophy and physics behind the relativity of simultaneity, block universe, curved spacetime, black holes, Big Bang cosmology, closed time-like curves, delayed choice experiments, Bell’s inequality, no counterfactual definiteness, entanglement, quantum nonlocality, the measurement problem, Many Worlds interpretation, retrocausality, particle physics, unification, and quantum gravity. There will be applications to dark matter, dark energy, time travel, and consciousness in the block universe.
