MU 101 - Foundations of Musicianship 2.00 credits. Foundations of Musicianship is designed to build essential skills for first-year music students, focusing on solfege singing and ear training. The course includes discussions on being a music major, and supports skill development in pitch and rhythmic solfege, tonal patterns, major and minor modalities, and time subdivisions. It provides a forum for students to ask questions and express concerns and culminates in a performance for a small group of peers. By the end of the semester, students will develop confidence relevant to the foundations of solfege singing and ear training, perform on their major applied instrument, identify important campus resources, and establish effective practice and study routines. Fall semester.
