* The School of Engineering and Computer Science has sunset the Computational Physics major. This program may not be declared by any enrolled student after 1/16/2023.
Student Learning Outcomes for Computational Physics:
Students will be able to:
- Map a physics problem to mathematical equations using the principles of physics.
- Design and implement a mathematical and/or computing-based solution of those mathematical equations and translate the solution back into physics.
- Collaborate effectively with classmates on both #1 and #2.
- Communicate (verbally and/or in writing) with the client to understand the physics problem they need solved and explain (verbally and/or in writing) the solution satisfactorily to the client.
- Identify a real-world, computational physics problem and design, implement, and document its solution.
- Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments based on legal and ethical principles.
Computational Physics majors may substitute PHY 201 for one of their Natural and Physical Science Core courses. Engineering and Physics students must earn a C- or better in ALL prerequisite Engineering and Physics courses to continue in the major.
