HI 2120 - Race and Ethnicity in American History 3.00 credits. Values, Choice, and Justice Core Course. This course focuses on a variety of racial and ethnic groups in 19th and 20th century America. It will emphasize the struggles, successes, and failures that accompanied each group as they sought a better life for themselves and their families. The course will ask each student to examine critically such terms as multiculturalism and assimilation. The course examines how these terms have also shaped and defined America and its continuing dialogue on race and ethnicity. The course challenges learners to apply lessons learned from the past to current events and most importantly, what we can learn from our history to improve race and ethnic relations in America.
