FBE 510 - The Enterprising Family Business 3.00 credits. The course introduces students to the intricacies of creating and managing an entrepreneurial family business from the first-generation entrepreneur to the sibling generation, continuing to the
cousins’ stage and beyond. The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of the strengths and uniqueness of entrepreneurial family businesses while being aware of the challenges faced by these businesses that threaten their renewal and continuity. It examines topics such as family business importance, type of family ownership business, governance, ownership subsystems, culture and values, growth and renewal, communication, and conflict. As part of this course the students are involved in in-depth research into an existing entrepreneurial family business.
