MU 102 - Musicianship I 4.00 credits. This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental constructs and notational practices of music theory, including clefs, meter signatures, scales/modes, key signatures, intervals, triads, and diatonic voice leading in two and four parts. Additionally, it provides foundational music reading and ear training using moveable “Do,” kinesthetically reinforced with Curwen hand signs. Rhythmic study will focus on basic beat and subdivisions of simple and compound meter, while melodic study will emphasize basic patterns that are characteristic of tonal music. *Prerequisite(s): MU 101 or permission granted through challenge exam. Spring semester.
