Psychology (B.A.)

Students must achieve an average of a C- or better for PSY 213  and PSY 218  to continue in the major.

Student Learning Outcomes for Psychology:

Students will be able to:

  • Critically analyze, synthesize, and evaluate ideas.

  • Conduct independent psychological research and apply psychological and methodological concepts to novel research ideas.

  • Effectively convey their evidence based analysis of psychological research and theories through oral and written formats.

  • Describe the nature of the relationship between brain, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors

  • Describe and apply the different theories and schools of thought of psychology (e.g. behaviorism) and to be able to place them in a historical perspective.

PSY 105  is a prerequisite to all other psychology courses, except PSY 111 . It is preferred that it be taken in the fall, but it could also be taken in the spring.

PSY 111  may be taken at any point over the four years.

The major requires three 200- level content courses (two of PSY 221 , PSY 226 , PSY 227 , or PSY 235 ; one of PSY 241  or PSY 251 ). The  major also requires PSY 213  and PSY 218 , which students should schedule for their second year. PSY 227  and  PSY 286  are Community-Based Learning courses.
