Health Professions Advising

Return to {$returnto_text} Return to: Academic Degrees and Programs

The Health Professions Advising is designed to provide each student, regardless of their major, with the information necessary to enable him or her to make an informed choice about the pursuit of a health-related career. This information is provided through both academic and practical experiences. The Health Professions Advising Committee (HPAC) works with the health profession student and the student’s major advisor to ensure that a reasonable and sound course of study will enable the student to develop the skills necessary for a health-related career. The HPAC advises the student on how to best prepare for standardized exams (e.g., MCAT), get internships, and works with the student in the preparation and submission of his or her graduate school application materials. In addition, the HPAC supports each student as they select suitable programs while taking into account considerations such as career goals and experiences.

In order to take best advantage of the opportunities provided by the Health Professions Advising, students interested in pursuing a health-related profession should register with the HPAC by contacting the Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences or the Chair of the Health Professions Advising as soon as early as their first year.

The Health Professions Advising sponsors on-campus speakers and off-campus field trips designed to provide useful information to students interested in a pursuing a health profession.

For further information, check out the website or contact the Chair of the Health Professions Advisory Committee, Dr. Debra Wohl.
